Sometimes, the interpretation of a set of old photos is not completely straightforward. This group, among others in a small and unimpressive-looking album, appear to be of a group of friends, possibly centred around the handsome chap above whose album I think this was, who all in some way had something to do with the excavation of the Roman Villa at Chedworth in Gloucestershire in the 1920s. That said, clearly there are other elements to the album and even the reasonably full captioning on the pages doesn't fully explain why a group of young men, boys really, were digging up a Roman archaeological site. Nonetheless, they have a certain charm and quality about them...
