Longterm readers of this blog will recognise the two pencil sketches above that hang in our flat here in Portsmouth. They are the work of Caroline Townshend, a stained-glass artist. By all accounts an interesting character who set up home after the First World War with her lover and life-partner Joan Howson. In fact, we have often wondered if the female nude is, in fact, Joan. So, casting around for something to do this afternoon R and I drove over to Rustington, a small adjunct to Littlehampton in West Sussex and visited the church there where we knew there was some stained glass by Townshend.
